Ahmedabad is a vibrant city in Gujarat, India. The reportage is a personal work carried out during a research workshop in the Old city, with a focus on the ‘public realm’. Public life is defined by rituals in which material and immaterial connotations transform an undefined space into a recognizable place. Through these ‘place activators’ a door front becomes kitchen or a meeting area, and a stepwell is together a sacred spaces and a site where to do laundry. A space is never given for granted, and it is always seeking a justification or redefinition. Unpredictability make spaces understandable only through time, as moments ready to fade.
